Changjiang Distinguished Professor, Ministry of Education of the PRC; Professor of College of Media and International Culture, Zhejiang University; Vice-president of China Association of Aesthetics; Vice-president of China Society for Anthropology of Arts; Deputy Director of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Zhejiang University; Director of Center for Contemporary Marxist Aesthetics; Director of Professor Committee of College of Media and International Culture; and Editor-in-chief of Research on Marxist Aesthetics. 
Chief expert of Fundamental Questions of Contemporary Aesthetics and Criticism, a major bidding project of The National Social Science Fund of China. 
His main works include Looking for Utopia: Crises and Reconstruction of Modern Aesthetics, Culture and Society: Marxism and Development of Chinese Literature Theory in 20th Century, and Research on Aesthetic Illusion; the translated works include Culture, Governance and Society and Aesthetic Ideology; and the edited works include textbooks like Aesthetics, etc.

Research Interest
 
Western Marxism, literary theory, and aesthetic anthropology. The first to raise the concepts “Chinese Marxist Aesthetics” and “Aesthetic Anthropology” in the academic circles in China. Top in the field of Marxist aesthetics, the theory of aesthetic illusion and ideology, the problematic and theory of Chinese Marxist aesthetics, and aesthetic anthropology based on Marxism. Four monographs, ninety-five academic articles, one translation, and two kinds of teaching material have been published.
